R. John Wright is recognized as
one of the top artists of today. He creates hand-crafted,
hand-painted, plush mohair and 100% wool felt
dolls & stuffed
animals. His artistry shows in the quality and
craftsmanship of all his collectible teddy bears,
stuffed animals and figurines. |
He started his business with his wife in the late
seventies, inspired by a book he had read called "The
Doll". His first doll was made with a piece of pale
yellow flannel he found lying around the house. His
current pieces show the immense progress in his work
since his first attempt at sewing.
His first real effort was a set of six dolls of bearded
men, made with flesh colored felt. They had rustic
clothing and sheep's wool hair. Within six months
his creations advanced beyond the primitive stage and
featured joints and more sophisticated clothing and
accessories. Today, his company's name is well known
among serious collectors across the world. We carry

Clifford Berryman Bear
As head cartoonist for the Washington Post, Clifford
Berryman created one of the most significant cartoon
symbols: "Berryman Bear." This little bear came
into being after news reports of President Theodore
Roosevelt's refusal to shoot a defenseless bear
cub. Berryman seized on the idea of depicting the
act in a cartoon. It was featured on the front
cover of The Post on November 16, 1902. Within
a year, manufacturers introduced jointed plush
toys which were quickly dubbed "Teddy's Bear." John
has produced a bear faithful to the original illustrations
to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the teddy
bear and its cover debut. Made of the finest alpaca
plush, fully jointed, molded nose, and resin claws,
this bear comes with an American flag in one paw
to celebrate his ancestory. Limited edition of

Duncan - Black Bear
Famed artist R. John Wright brings his reputation
of artistic achievement to the bear lovers
of the world with two new, significant bear
pieces. He began creation of his bears with
all natural materials, stuffing them in a combination
of kapok and cotton and constructing them of
alpaca plush. He designed tiny resin claws,
which are inserted below delicately painted
felt paw pads. Each bear also has a hand-molded
leather nose, also carefully painted to the
highest standard. Duncan has black glass eyes
with felt backing to enhance his character
grin. He is black in color and an impressive
20 inches tall. He comes with his own voice
in the form of an internal growler. He's a
limited edition of 300 pieces.

She is currently the only female bear in John's

Flopsy, Mopsy, & Cotton-tail™ - Peter
Rabbit's™ sisters - each measure approximately

Mississippi Bear Hunt
Teddy Roosevelt - Mississippi Bear Hunt - Faithfully
based on the vintage illustrations, Teddy features
a custom-molded felt character face in the image
of our 26th president "Teddy" Roosevelt, with
beautifully hand-painted features and a mohair
wig and moustache. Roosevelt has a five-way jointed
sculptural body. He sports an authentically-tailored
costume made of felt, a detailed pair of wire
rim spectacles,and hand-cobbled leather boots.
Across his chest is a double row of minature
metal bullets. In one hand, he holds a replica
rifle custom-made of wood and metal, and in the
other outstretched arm he holds a frighteded

Thomas Nast's Santa Claus
Thomas Nast's famous illustration of Santa first
appeared in the pages of Harpers Weekly in 1862.
Prior to this time, Santa had been primarily
based on the European tradition of Saint Nicholas.
Nast's drawings marked the first appearance of
Santa Claus as we know him today. The R. John
Wright rendition of Thomas Nast's Santa Claus
is faithfully based on the original Nast images.
Standing 14" tall, Santa is fully jointed and
constructed of molded felt with hand painted
features and a mohair wig and beard. He is "dressed
all in fur from his head to his foot" in a fully
lined suit and matching cap of custom-dyed mohair
plush with alpaca and felt trim. On his feet
are cobbled leather shoes with brass buckles
and in one hand a custom clay pipe. He comes
complete with handmade toys and pack, ready to
spread Christmas joy, and is enclosed in a deluxe
RJW presentation box with certificate of authenticity.
Among the special accessories is a custom bound
and illustrated "Mother Goose"; handcrafted wooden
hobby horse; pewter sword; and original miniature
