THE HISTORY OF THE JEWELRY BOX:
In the Victorian Age, a jewelry box was an integral
part of a lady's bedroom. Except for the wealthy, most
women had just a few good pieces of jewelry, such as
a cameo broach, a simple pair of pearl earrings and
perhaps a ring or delicate necklace. They needed something
to safeguard their treasures and keep them free from
dust.
In the late Victorian Era, a more Art Nouveau look
prevailed. They were designed using silver, bronze,
and even jeweled styles. The designs used flowers and
leafs that even served as handles for the boxes. They
used velvet inside to keep the treasures safe.
Today, jewelry boxes come in all shapes and sizes,
from small and simple to extravagant. Many of our deluxe
