From the early 1980's, Guillermo Forchino experiments
with various materials to create works of art in volume.
This research began at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in
Rosario, Argentina and then continued with three years
of studies in art restoration and conservation at the
Sorbonne University in Paris, France. During his studies
he discovered and mastered classic techniques and materials.
After completing his studies in Paris, he returned
to Argentina where he directed the Juan B. Castagnino
atelier of art restoration for the Museum of Beaux-Arts
of Rosario.
It was during this period that Forchino began creating
figures made from wrapped bands of cloth where the
visible parts of the body (head and hands) were made
from wax and paper maché colored with natural
pigments.
From the end of the 1980's, Forchino chose poly resins
to create figures and scenes that resemble the world
of comic strip and cartoon characters. They are typically
unusual and humorous subjects such as a family leaving
on vacation in an overloaded car with flat tires or
a tired, old American pick-up truck from the 1950's.
He has used other modes of transportation such as boats,
planes and motorcycles and has even used a bathtub
for a military dictator. His characters are always
handled with humor and finesse and given a soul.
Guillermo Forchino lives and works in Paris in his
workshop two steps away from the Pere Lachaise cemetery.
The Comic Art of Guillermo Forchino is now available
for a larger group of art lovers in the form of limited
edition, numbered series. Found only in specially selected
stores, each piece is identified by a numbered stamp
on the bottom.
It comes wrapped in the newspaper "The Forchino Times" along
with the autobiography of Forchino and pictures of
his collection. A certificate of authenticity completes
the package.

Jeep Militaire
Released in 2003 as an open edition. Size: Approximately
16" x 8.5" x 8". "When I was a child, my old
little tin soldiers with flaking paint were kept
in a cardboard case and it was rather heavy when
I took it to my cousin's house. Together with
my cousin Guy, we spent hours and hours arranging
the décor of hills and trees. The trenches
were made of little sacks filled with sand. The
barracks and garages were topped with pieces
of wood. A huge red cross marked the hospital.
Among our characters there were two nurses, and
we decided that they were our fiancées.
I played that I was the little soldier with the
helmet, fully covered with scratches. Once we
put it all together it was almost time to go
home, but that didn't matter. We spent some three
or four very happy hours. And with those moments
in mind, I made this completely beat-up Jeep,
loaded with a bunch of soldiers with damaged
helmets."

Le Cabriolet (The Convertible)
Released in 2003 as an open edition and scheduled
to be retired in December of 2005. Size: Approximately
13" x 6.5" x 6.25". European designer Guillermo
Forchino presents his vision of the modern world
in all its absurdity through comic art: "The
immense fortune which the Argentinean millionaire
Marcelo Castaño amassed from the sale
of toothpicks has allowed him to buy six villas,
two television channels, a 300,000 acre ranch,
a 90-meter yacht, a collection of 22 cars and
this magnificent 1952 convertible. He says that
money does not interest him at all: for this
toothpick tycoon, love is the essence of life.
Love found in the person of his loyal and passionately-adored
wife, with whom he has shared his life for the
past two days following a sumptuous wedding in
Las Vegas."

Le Fermier (The Farmer)
Released in 2003 as an open edition. Size: Approximately
13.5" x 6" x 6". European designer Guillermo
Forchino presents his vision of the modern world
in all its absurdity through comic art: "Every
weekend, after having loaded their truck with
chickens, watermelons, pumpkins and vegetables,
Don Juan and Maria Manero went to the village
market to sell the products of their garden.
Don Juan always said that his watermelons were
the biggest and juiciest in the whole area, and
that the eggs his chickens laid should win a
beauty contest. In the fifty years that they
had been married they had only missed the market
once: the day that Maria tweezed her moustache
without telling her husband. In a crisis of acute
jealously because of his wife's coquettish behavior,
Don Juan sat down on the patio with his arms
crossed and a grumpy expression on his face,
refusing to get into the truck. It just so happened
that Maria's moustache grew back quickly, and
they were soon able to resume their trips to
the market. without telling her husband."

Le Taxi
Released in 2003 as an open edition. Size: Approximately
13.5" x 6.5" x 6.5" . European designer Guillermo
Forchino presents his vision of the modern world
in all its absurdity through comic art: "On a
very hot day, Miss Marta Gaitan Barberio and
her friend Mercedes Arana Calderon decided, after
a long trip by train, to go home by cab. The
taxi was an old model and rather badly kept up;
the body was all beat up and held together with
iron wire. The driver of the completely demolished
vehicle wouldn't let the ladies put their luggage
in the trunk because it was already filled with
six packages of sausages, barbecued ham, and
three cartons of beer. He wouldn't let them put
their belongings on the front seat either, because
he didn't want it ruined. Once they got home,
Marta and Mercedes had to ask a passerby to help
them squeeze out of the car."

Le Tourbillon Bleu (The Blue Tornado)
Released in 2003 as an open edition. Size: Approximately
11" x 5.25" x 5.25". European designer Guillermo
Forchino presents his vision of the modern world
in all its absurdity through comic art: "Ever
since his childhood, no one had believed in him.
Everybody in his hometown laughed at his barely
intelligent looks. He was the target of all kinds
of bullying. The only thing he liked was to run
through the streets like an idiot, leaving clouds
of dust behind him. With his hands he made motions
of driving a car, and noises escaped from his
mouth, and thousands of drops of saliva, as he
imitated a running car engine. Nobody knew how,
but at the age of twenty-five he managed to win
the Indy 500. Today, there's not a single person
who laughs at the great Lionel Benjamin. Moreover,
people admire his audacious and unbridled style.
Among the champion's fans it has become fashionable
to imitate his obsession with imitating the rumbling
of an engine and the mud splashes on the windscreen.Benjamin.
Moreover, people admire his audacious and unbridled
style."

Les Pompiers (The Fireman)
Released in 2004 as an open edition. Size: Approximately
19.5" x 12" x 15". "A deafening siren howled
in the crowded streets of Rosario City. The fire
truck, moving at high speed, left passer-bys
perplexed. Everyone watched the enormous mass
with surprise as it managed to zigzag through
the ocean of cars. Ten minutes of high speed
driving sufficed the brave firemen to arrive
just in time to prevent, Mimi, the cat of the
ravishing blonde Maria Alicia Vicari, from falling
out of the tree where it was taking her siesta
in the sun. Our heroes battled for 45 minutes,
but after numerous scratches and bites, they
managed to bring down the intractable animal.
With applause from the neighbors, they returned
the feline to her mistress who by mistake let
the cat escape. The charming kitty, with a superb
leap, managed to climb even higher. Fortunately,
the ladder was still in place."

The Police
Released in 2003 as an open edition. Size: Approximately
13.5" x 6" x 6". "After having been a brilliant
student at the Police Academy, young police officer
Richard Thompson was newly appointed to the city's
anti-violence brigade. The very same day the City
Bank was attacked by three highly armed robbers.
The police immediately arrested one of the bandits.
After his constitutional rights were read to him,
he was seated in the back, and handcuffed to Officer
Thompson's wrist, who was ordered to punish any
sudden movement of the suspect severely. Without
any further hesitation they left to follow the
rest of the gang, who answered with loaded Kalachnikovs,
Magnum 357s and rocket launchers. The gunfire lasted
two hours. Even with the hood and windscreen covered
with holes, the courageous men in blue continued
to risk their lives until the outlaws were caught.
Later that night, when the police officers finally
found Officer Thompson still hidden under the back
seat, they advised him to find another job. He
now sells popcorn in a movie theater in Iowa."
